Tour de Dents du Midi

I’ve been on the tour des Dents du Midi this week dodging the rain showers with mixed results. The huts, as usual, provide a warm welcome like the CAS Cabane de Susanfee (above) and a chance to dry off each evening. It’s still quiet though, there were only 5 other people in the Cabane de Susanfee for example.

There’s still some snow in places but it’s not a significant hazard generally, there are a couple of short sections that require some care but generally, it’s not a major issue. In the Pas d’Encel it seems some of the chains aren’t in place although there are some shiny new looking bolt hangers so it’s possible these will be back in place in the next week or so.

There’s also a lot of sheep grazing in the area right now so the farmers have their “chiens de protection” out, I don’t have photo’s as the dogs don’t really encourage you to hang around.

The forecast for the next few weeks is still unsettled so conditions will be challenging at times. It’s worth bearing in mind this is quite a difficult route, there’s a lot of ascent and descent and some difficult sections on the fixed gear with some considerable exposure, it’s also one of the best short multi-day tours in Switzerland!

We have several dates still available for our guided Tour des Dents du Midi, we’re able to offer this for small private groups as well. Please contact us for details!
