I’ve been back in the Dolomites again and was going to do a few more via ferrata in my free time but some early snow made the higher routes a bit difficult. I’d headed up the Tofana to do a route around the summit but with a lot of new snow on the 3000m plus summit it didn’t look a great option to climb on my own so I had a scramble around on the summit before heading for a hike and then back to Cortina.
As usual the rock scenery of the area doesn’t disappoint and the snow is almost literally the icing on the cake. None of the mountains are very high around here, the Tofanna group gives the third highest Dolomite peak but only the Marmolada has a real volume of summer snow or glacier.
