Snowshoeing at Les Diablerets

As has been reported, with suitable hysteria, the snow’s not been ideal for this time of year. A lot of ski stations haven’t been able to operate all their lifts and I’ve needed to get quite high to snowshoe. Fortunately, there’s a few lifts open for pedestrians to get us up to the snow line.

Today I went up to Isenau above Les Diablerets and climbed up to the ridge which was quite good. I would have to say though that, if they want to encourage hiking, they’re going to need to give better guidance about where to go. It’s still alpine winter and you can’t just wander around where you want unless you’re able to know it’s safe or understand where the dangers might lie.

Summer farms above Isenau, Les Diablerets

These summer farms mark a reasonable high point for a casual walk, it’s fairly safe up to this point. Higher up, it’s not quite as safe really and I could see footprints leading across slopes that had some degree of risk albeit relatively low. Just trying to tackle some of those slopes without touring skis or snowshoes would suggest a lack of experience.
