Monts Chevreuils

The last substantial snowfall was back in November which I largely missed being at a UIMLA conference in Holland and coming back with some sort of virus which knocked me out for a month. So, it feels like this is first of winter I’ve seen. The snow came with a blast of cold air that left me freezing at the car this morning and uncertain what layers to wear. As it was, I climbed fairly briskly to the refuge on Monts Chevrueils for a coffee and then onto the summit but it wasn’t until I was nearly back at the car that I started to feel anything like really warm.

I parked at the military base as they always clear the road and clear space to park off the road. My tracks were the first from that point but some other people did cut in from other start points later.

As I think you can see in the photo, the grass is still coming through. That’s my uphill trail and I skied back mostly the same way since I knew how good the cover was without messing around too much.

I was actually going to ski off on the north side but after two turns going down to the grass I decided a 1000m of that wasn’t going to be too much fun so I traversed back and took the south side and back to the car.
