Col d’Isenau – Saxieme

This is a short descent and climb from the back of the Isenau ski area. It’s a little north facing valley so it holds the snow well and has some excellent spring skiing. On the south side, there’re a few bits of grass coming through!

There’s a reason Julie is carrying her old skis. We were trying to confirm that it’s the delta angle, or binding angle, that’s giving her a problem as opposed to the ramp angle, or angle in the boots. Those old Fritschi frame bindings, like all frame bindings, have a neutral to negative delta which means the toe isn’t lower than the heel. So, if it’s the delta and the other skis need a toe shim, then these should be fine. If it’s still a problem, then it’s the boots.

Once we’re on the col, the north slopes are pretty much 100% cover with nice, easy angled spring snow.

postscript… the frame bindings were just fine so the dynafits need a shim under the toes. A job for next week!
