It’s May and spring is on the way. There’s been some fresh snow over the last few days on the tops but it was onto the bare ground below 2000-2500m so it’ll soon melt in the spring sunshine. We took a stroll up to Refuge Mayen to see how much snow there was.

I’m a former director of the British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML) and the president of the international body the Union of International Mountain Leader Associations (UIMLA). I’ve represented UIMLA to the UIAA – International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation and as a member of the avalanche commission of the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR).
