Macedonia

As part of my role as UIMLA President, I was invited to Macedonia for a week. This was part of a project funded by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the goals are to build sustainable value chains in mountain tourism. I’ve been following Macedonia for a while, while I was a UK delegate to UIMLA we reviewed and accepted the evaluation reports on their path to be members of UIMLA. As president at the general assembly in Poprad in 2018, I was delighted when Macedonia became a full member.

As well as looking around Macedonia and visiting some amazing places I took part in some TV interviews and meetings. There were two great highlights. First, the presentation of the licenses and badges to the first cohort of International Mountain Leaders in Macedonia. And second, a chance to meet the next cohort from Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo.

It’s the start of the next, new phase for Macedonia as they build the profession and create new journies and experiences for visitors. It’s an amazing place and I really recommend visiting!
