The ski station at Château-d’Oex closed a couple of years ago and it’s now a good destination for some ski tours. There’s a high avalanche risk currently so the easy angled slopes are ideal. The best access is via Gérignoz where an older lift ran from but that closed a few years before the rest of the station. It’s possible to drive up to the mid-station but we started from the base. It’s only 950m in height at the base so snow cover there isn’t reliable. There was great cover all the way from Gérignoz on ascent and descent. Our meandering route up and down the mountain mostly worked, there were a couple of sections on our return where we needed to put the skins back on but mostly it worked.
