The alpages and alpine pastures at Gros Mont are some of the finest examples I’ve ever seen of the pastures that alpine cattle occupy during the summer. Right now it’s still a few weeks before they’ll reach this height but on the lower pastures you can see the cattle moving gradually up the mountain. That’s actually really great on the bike as it means the gates and fences are down so you don’t need to keep getting off and stopping.
Even though the cattle aren’t there we found other wildlife, some chamois, many red kites, a pine martin and many birds!
