Here in Switzerland we can get a reduced price day ticket for public transport. If you have a half-price card already then it’s around 50-60 CHF for a day pass depending when you buy it. So, I took a train from Leysin changing at Aigle, then Brig before getting a bus from Goppenstein to Fafleralp. The bus needs an advance reservation to take a bike.
My plan was to ride through the Lötschental before descending to Sierre and getting a much quicker train connection back. It’s a good time of year for this type of trip, the trail conditions are about perfect and there’s still a few mountain restaurants open so you can even get lunch and a drink.
