Spring is here, at least most days. So we went over Château-d’Oex with no particular plan other than to have a ride around. As we rode above the town it became clear we’d probably be able to get fairly high up so we headed toward Gros Mont. It’s a remarkable alpage which is a high altitude grazing area for the cattle in summer. Of course, it’s far too early for the cows although we saw a few enjoying lower pastures.
The track had some damage after winter and we had a couple of snow patches to cross but it was easy enough to get to Gros Mont. And then back via Château-d’Oex which is always lively enough to find a cafe for a drink.
