First Aid for skiers, snowboarders and snowshoers
I’ve been delivering first aid for several years for other professionals including mountain guides, mountain leaders, ski instructors and others. I’m an international mountain leader and I’m president of the international governing body UIMLA.
I’m a member of the Avalanche Commission which is part of the International Commission on Alpine Rescue. I’m also part of MountainSafety.Info working with other professionals to produce an international knowledgebase of best practice in avalanche rescue.
We are offering a 3-4 hour course covering essential skills for people in the mountains in winter. We’ll cover how to support casualties after an avalanche, managing cold weather injuries, what first aid supplies you need, how to use emergency shelters and move injured group members.
This is a private course intended for groups like families, friends, clubs and others. It’s run on request and typically at your own place but we’ve plenty of great resources here in Leysin.

subjects include
- First Aid Equipment
- Assessment of the situation
- Prioritising treatment
- Environmental factors
- Moving a casualty
- Shock
- Fractures & breaks
- Control of bleeding
- Head injuries
- Sprains and strains
- Hypothermia
- Frostbite
