I’m an International Mountain Leader and First aid Trainer. I left the UK in 1999 to live and work in Europe. Since 2003 we’ve lived in Switzerland. We are based in Leysin in the Swiss Alps where we also run the Epicea B&B providing accommodation for our clients. I’m a former director of the British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML) and the president of the international body the Union of International Mountain Leader Associations (UIMLA). I’ve represented UIMLA to the UIAA – International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation and as a member of the avalanche commission of the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR).
For some time I had planned to do this route using the trains. I noticed that there was a train from a place called Romainmôtier back to Aigle which was part of the local travel network which means that the ticket was particularly cheap. Another fine autumn day which was a great time to ride in the Jura again. It’s pretty empty right now, the cows are gone and the farms are closed up for the winter. As a great advantage for mountain bikers the fences and gates are removed – some small care is needed as in places

The terrain and trails in the Jura are superb, particularly around the col du Mollendruz and col du Marchairuz. This trip I wanted to take in the top of the Grand Cunay which was great. There’s probably more trails that would be good and I’ll explore them over time.

The long stretched of open country of the Jura and the many farm or forest tracks make it just ideal for am e-bike. This route is great, a variant of a signed route, as it covers some of my favourite places around Mt Tendre.
