The pas de Cheville is a high pass between the cantons of the Vaud and Valais reached by passing the Refuge Giacomini. It’s a great ride in these autumn conditions. The climb is a little steep in places on a 4wd track that the refuge uses.

The new telecabine in Les Diablerets runs in the summer now and you can take a bike or e-bike inside. It runs from the village up to the top of the col de la Croix so it avoids a long climb and it’s worth using to explore the many trails around the Villars/Les Diablerets area.

There’s still snow on some of the north slopes so I had to alter my planned route a little but the main intention worked well. I parked at La Forclaz and then climbed to the Col de Bretaye before traversing to the col de la Croix. It’s about 18km with 1000m of ascent/descent.
